If you are a fleet manager, you are going to be in charge of not only a great deal of people, but also a great deal of vehicle and machinery. This is a huge responsibility for any company to place on the shoulders of one person. As a result, they want to make sure that they find the right person who is going to be able to handle the responsibilities of the job, not lose their cool, and be successful. Here are some questions to prepare for if you are planning on interviewing for a fleet manager position.
1. Are You Willing to Relocate?
This is one of the most important questions because it shows two things. First, it shows whether or not you are truly committed to the position and are willing to move where the company needs you in order to be more effective while on-call. Second, it shows whether or not you have commitments that might keep you from being on the road for long stretches. For example, if you have a spouse that has a job that requires you to stay in the area, then you show the company that you have someone else in your life that is going to have an influence on how you spend your time, possibly making it more difficult for them to send you out on jobs. Make sure that you have an answer ready that shows that you will put the company first if you really want the job.
2. How Would You Handle Customer Complaints?
Sometimes, fleet managers are more focused on the customer satisfaction aspect of their jobs and will need to field customer complaints personally. If the company at which you are interviewing needs you to be able to handle difficult customers tactfully, you are going to need to show that you are able to talk to people, hear their concerns, and resolve them as soon as possible. Telling a story from another time when you were working in customer service is usually a great way to illustrate your abilities in the field.
3. Why Are You the Best Candidate for this Position?
Finally, you are going to need to name a few qualities that allow you t stand out from the other candidates, such as your attention to detail or ability to work under pressure. Have stories that clearly show these features ready should the company ask for more information.
